We are past the midway point of August now, and Lake Norman is still every bit as beautiful. Last weekend was one of the busiest of the summer with Andy Grammer closing out Kannapolis's summer concert series, Movies in the Park in Huntersville, and a full weekend of community events across the lake. Now the calendar shifts toward the rest of August and the transition into early fall. There is still so much to look forward to from the Huntersville Night at the Ballpark this Friday to the Lake Norman Bluegrass Jamboree later this month.

Last Weekend in Review: A Summer Highlight
The weekend of August 7-9 was one of the busiest and best of the entire summer around Lake Norman. If you made it out to any of these events, you already know how special they were. If you missed them, here is what happened.
Friday night, Liberty Park in Mooresville hosted Rock the Park featuring Yacht Rock Radio with food vendors and live music under the trees. A perfect way to kick off a summer weekend.
Saturday was the main event. Families headed to Village Park in Kannapolis for the free Andy Grammer concert at 7 p.m. Many arrived early to ride the beautifully restored 1908 carousel and walk the park's pond trails before the music started. Others headed to Davidson's Village Green for Concerts on the Green or Veterans Park in Huntersville for Movies in the Park. Three excellent community events in three different towns, all on the same night.
Local's Tip: If you made it to Kannapolis for Andy Grammer, you already know Village Park is a gem with its splash pad, walking trails, and carousel. The Kannapolis summer concert series has become one of the most beloved free event programs in the Charlotte metro, and this year's grand finale was a standout. Upcoming Events: What's Still Ahead
The rest of August is packed with concerts, festivals, theater, and community events that are still very much on the calendar. Here is everything worth putting on your calendar.
Rock the Park - Yacht Rock Radio
Mooresville's free outdoor concert series welcomed Yacht Rock Radio for a perfect late-summer Friday night at Liberty Park. The Rock the Park summer series continues through the season.
Concerts on the Green
Davidson's beloved outdoor concert series continued on the Village Green with blankets, picnics, and live music. A beautiful evening bringing together students, young families, and longtime residents. The series continues on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays through October with the next date on Saturday, August 22. Pack a picnic and bring the whole family.
Movies in the Park
Huntersville's Movies in the Park series kicked off August with a family-friendly film under the stars at Veterans Park. Check the Huntersville Parks & Recreation calendar for upcoming movie dates.
Andy Grammer with Walk Off the Earth
The grand finale of Kannapolis's summer concert series brought Andy Grammer and Walk Off the Earth to Village Park for a free, family-friendly outdoor show. It was a spectacular close to an incredible summer concert season.
Greater Church Back to School Bash & Cookout
A free community event in Concord brought families together with food, activities, and school supplies ahead of the new school year. Keep an eye on Concord community calendars for similar grassroots gatherings.
Huntersville Night at the Ballpark
A town-wide night out as Huntersville families come together at Truist Field for a Charlotte Knights baseball game. A fun way to connect with neighbors and enjoy America's pastime before the school year gets fully underway. Discounted group tickets available through the town.
Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade
One of the largest Pride celebrations in the Carolinas returns to Uptown Charlotte with a weekend full of events, performances, and the signature parade through the heart of the city. The festival draws tens of thousands of attendees and includes a vendor village, live entertainment, and community resources. A vibrant, welcoming celebration that reflects the best of Charlotte's inclusive and growing community.
L+K Homes Foam Back to School Bash
A foam party and back-to-school bash supporting Classroom Central, which provides free school supplies to students and teachers across the Charlotte region. Admission is free with a school supply donation. Part dance party, part community fundraiser, and a whole lot of fun for the whole family.
John Waite - Live in Concert
John Waite, the voice behind 'Missing You' and 'When I See You Smile', performs at the Cain Center in Cornelius. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., show at 7:30 p.m. An intimate concert experience you will not find anywhere else in the Charlotte metro this summer, and a must-see for anyone who grew up with 80s rock. The Cain Center has quickly become the cultural heart of the Lake Norman area.
Charlotte Tacos 'N Taps
A celebration of tacos and craft beer featuring live music, vendors, and tastings from Charlotte's best taco makers and breweries. Tickets available now. A perfect date night or group outing for foodies who love the Charlotte food scene.
Charlotte FC vs. Atlanta United
The Crown Jewel rivalry returns to Bank of America Stadium as Charlotte FC hosts Atlanta United. This is one of the most intense matchups in Major League Soccer. If you have not experienced a Charlotte FC home match yet, this is the one to attend. The supporter sections create a match-day atmosphere that rivals any in the league.
Lake Norman Bluegrass Jamboree
A free, family-friendly, and dog-friendly bluegrass festival at Lost Worlds Brewing in Cornelius. Live bluegrass music all afternoon and evening, food from Lost Worlds Kitchen, and craft beer in the brewery taproom. This is the kind of community event that captures the soul of Lake Norman living. Music & Makers
An art and music gathering featuring local artisans, live music, and Davidson's creative community. A wonderful way to spend a late-summer afternoon discovering handmade goods and listening to local talent in the heart of Davidson.
Million Dollar Quartet - Cain Center
A co-production with Davidson Community Players, Million Dollar Quartet tells the story of the legendary 1956 recording session that brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Multiple performances across two weekends with matinee and evening showtimes.
Weekly Traditions Still Going Strong

North Meck Farmers Market
Fresh produce at its peak - August tomatoes, peaches, corn, melons - plus local crafts, baked goods, and live music every Wednesday morning. The North Meck Farmers Market is a weekly ritual for good reason.
Cornelius Community Market
An afternoon market with local produce, artisan foods, handmade crafts, and community connections. A special night market with extended hours, live music, and extra vendors runs Wednesday, August 26 from 5-7 p.m. - a perfect midweek evening activity for the whole family.
Live Under the Oaks
Free live music in the heart of Birkdale Village. Shop, dine, and enjoy local musicians performing in the central courtyard.
Langtree Lake Norman Concerts
Free weekly concerts with a rotating lineup of regional acts. Grab dinner at one of the on-site restaurants and settle in for live music at the lake.
Davidson Farmers Market
A year-round farmers market in the heart of downtown Davidson with local produce, artisan foods, baked goods, flowers, and live music. Peak summer produce is at its absolute best right now.
Charlotte FC: The Crown Jewel Matchup
Sports fans, mark August 22 on your calendar. Charlotte FC hosts Atlanta United at Bank of America Stadium at 7:30 p.m. This is the rivalry match of the season. The supporter sections bring drums, flags, and non-stop singing that rivals any match day in the league.
Even if you are not a hardcore soccer fan, a Charlotte FC match is a genuinely fun experience. The tailgates in the parking lots around the stadium, the sea of mint-and-navy jerseys filling Uptown Charlotte, the roar when the team scores. If you have not been to a match yet, this is the one to attend.
Plan Ahead: Labor Day Weekend Is Coming
Labor Day Weekend (September 4-7) is the grand finale of summer, and the Charlotte metro knows how to send it off in style. Start planning now.
Matthews Alive Festival
A 50+ year tradition in the Charlotte area, Matthews Alive is a four-day festival featuring a carnival, live music, 150+ vendors, food, a parade, and activities for the entire family. All proceeds support local nonprofits. Admission is free. About 30 minutes from Lake Norman, it is well worth the drive for a day of classic American festival fun.
U.S. National Whitewater Center - Labor Day Celebration
The Whitewater Center celebrates Labor Day weekend with a 5K and 15K Trail Race, special activities, and live music on the River Jam stage. If you have not made it to the Whitewater Center yet this summer, this is the perfect weekend to go. The water is still warm, the evenings are cooling down, and the energy is electric.

Harriet's Hamburgers
DavidsonThe retro-inspired Charlotte burger chain opened its Lake Norman location in Sadler Square on July 3. Smashed-to-order burgers, hand-cut fries, old-school milkshakes, and a fun, nostalgic atmosphere.
Ilios Crafted Greek

HuntersvilleA brand-new 6,085-square-foot location near Birkdale Village seating 152 inside and 93 outside. Burtons is known for made-from-scratch American cuisine with extensive gluten-free and allergen-friendly options.
Vitale Lakeside
MooresvilleWaterfront Italian dining at the former Queens Landing site on Lake Norman. Vitale Lakeside features a floating bar, dockside dining, and Italian-inspired cuisine with panoramic lake views. The most anticipated restaurant opening of the year on the lake.
Crave Cookies
MooresvilleA specialty cookie shop at 201 N. Church Street in Mooresville offering deep-dish cookies in creative flavors. The first Lake Norman location of this Charlotte-based brand.
The Sadler Square dining district in Davidson deserves special mention. With the opening of Ilios Crafted Greek (July 20), the corridor now features Copain (French brasserie), Harriets Hamburgers (retro burger joint), Roosters Wood-Fired Kitchen (wood-fired American), and Fontana Di Vino (Italian wine bar) - all within a few blocks of each other. An evening in Sadler Square feels like a mini food tour.

Outdoor Adventures: Make the Most of Late Summer
The water is warm, the evenings are long, and the parks are beautiful. Here is where to get outside right now.
Lake Norman State Park
TroutmanMid-August is prime time at the state park. The swimming beach is open, the water is at its warmest of the year, and kayak and paddleboard rentals are available daily. The Itusi Trail offers 30+ miles of hiking and mountain biking. By late August, the crowds start to thin, making weekday visits especially peaceful.
Ramsey Creek Park
CorneliusA beautiful lakeside park with a sandy swimming beach (lifeguard on duty through Labor Day), a hiking trail, a kayak launch, and plenty of green space. A less crowded alternative to the state park on summer weekends.
U.S. National Whitewater Center
CharlotteWhitewater rafting, kayaking, zip lines, mountain biking trails, and the free River Jam concert series on Thursday through Saturday evenings. August is one of the best times to visit. The Labor Day weekend celebration with trail races and live music is always a highlight.
Latta Nature Preserve
Huntersville1,460 acres of preserved natural beauty with 16-plus miles of hiking trails, the Carolina Raptor Center, an aquarium, and lake access. The raptor center is a highlight. The nature center is air-conditioned, making it a perfect midday stop.
Fisher Farm Park
DavidsonA hidden gem with wooded trails, open fields, and a disc golf course. Less crowded than the bigger parks and perfect for a quiet morning walk or an afternoon of disc golf. The trails connect to the wider Carolina Thread Trail network.
My top pick for an August day on the lake: Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius. The sandy beach is lifeguarded through Labor Day, the kayak launch makes it easy to get on the water. If you have visiting family or friends this month, this is where you take them.
