We are well into August now, and Lake Norman is showing off. The lake is warm, the sunsets are coming a few minutes earlier each evening, and the calendar is packed with festivals, concerts, and community events that make this region feel alive. This is the month when locals truly lean into lake living.

Million Dollar Quartet at Cain Center
A co-production with Davidson Community Players, Million Dollar Quartet tells the story of the legendary 1956 recording session that brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Multiple showtimes with matinee and evening performances. Tickets still available for remaining shows.
Huntersville Night at the Ballpark
The town of Huntersville takes over Truist Field for a Charlotte Knights baseball game. Discounted group tickets, fireworks after the game, and a chance to connect with neighbors. A fun Friday night outing for families.
Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade
One of the largest Pride celebrations in the Carolinas returns to Uptown Charlotte with a weekend full of events, performances, and the signature parade through the heart of the city. Free and open to all.
CLT Burger Week
The 11th annual CLT Burger Week features specialty burgers for just $8 at over 20 participating restaurants. Several Lake Norman spots are participating. A delicious way to explore new restaurants on a budget.
Sundown Sounds
Cornelius's Sundown Sounds concert series offers live music at the lake's edge in Ramsey Creek Park. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and watch the sunset over the water while local and regional acts perform.
John Waite Live at Cain Center
John Waite performs live at the Cain Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. An intimate concert experience and a must-see for anyone who grew up with 80s rock.
Charlotte Tacos 'N Taps
A celebration of tacos and craft beer featuring live music, vendors, and tastings from Charlotte's best taco makers and breweries. A perfect date night for foodies.
Concerts on the Green (Final Summer Date)
The final Concerts on the Green of the season. If you have not made it to one of these Davidson summer staples yet, this is your last chance. Pack a picnic and enjoy the community spirit.
Charlotte FC vs. Atlanta United
The Crown Jewel rivalry match of the MLS season. If you have not experienced a Charlotte FC home match yet, this is the one to attend.
Lake Norman Bluegrass Jamboree
A free, family-friendly, and dog-friendly bluegrass festival at Lost Worlds Brewing in Cornelius. Live bluegrass all afternoon and evening, food from Lost Worlds Kitchen, and craft beer. The kind of community event that captures the soul of Lake Norman living.
Puerto Rican Festival of the Carolinas
A vibrant celebration of Puerto Rican culture with authentic cuisine, live music, dance performances, and artisan vendors. One of the most anticipated cultural events in the Cabarrus County area.
Music & Makers
An art and music gathering featuring local artisans, live music, and Davidson's creative community. A wonderful way to spend a late-summer afternoon discovering handmade goods and listening to local talent.
Can't pick just one? August 29 is the most packed Saturday of the month. The Lake Norman Bluegrass Jamboree at Lost Worlds Brewing in Cornelius and the Puerto Rican Festival at Route 29 Pavilion in Concord are both happening the same day, about 20 minutes apart. Start in Cornelius for bluegrass and end in Concord for authentic cuisine and live music.

MooresvilleWaterfront Italian dining at the former Queens Landing site on Lake Norman. Features a floating bar, dockside dining, and Italian-inspired cuisine with panoramic lake views. Reservations recommended for sunset seating.

DavidsonA French brasserie and bakery in Sadler Square. Fresh-baked croissants, house-made charcuterie, and seasonal French dishes. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Harriet's Hamburgers
DavidsonOpened July 3 in Sadler Square. Smashed-to-order Angus beef patties and famous Beef Butter Fries. The fifth Charlotte-area location has already become a family favorite.
Ilios Crafted Greek
DavidsonOpened July 20 in Sadler Square. Build-your-own bowls, handcrafted gyros, and family recipes passed down through generations. A fresh, healthy option for lunch or a quick dinner.
Florence Wine & Beer Garden
MooresvilleA massive 40,000-square-foot outdoor gathering space featuring a wine bar, beer garden, and rotating food vendors. Live music on weekends and a genuinely unique atmosphere.
Suffolk Punch Brewing
HuntersvilleA neighborhood brewery at Birkdale Commons. House-brewed beers, creative small plates, and a welcoming atmosphere. Already becoming a gathering spot for the Birkdale area.
The Sadler Square dining district in Davidson deserves special attention. North Meck Farmers Market
Fresh produce at peak season. August tomatoes, peaches, corn, and melons plus local crafts, baked goods, and live music.

Special Night Market on August 26 with extended hours, live music, and extra vendors from 5-7 p.m.
Live Under the Oaks
Free live music in the central courtyard at Birkdale. Shop, dine, and enjoy local musicians. Final Friday of August is your last chance.
Langtree Lake Norman Concerts
Free weekly concerts with a rotating lineup of regional acts. Grab dinner at one of the on-site restaurants and settle in for live music.
Davidson Farmers Market
Year-round market with peak summer produce, artisan foods, and live music in the heart of Davidson.
Don't miss: The Cornelius Community Market hosts a special Night Market on Wednesday, August 26 from 5-7 p.m. with extended hours, live music, and extra vendors. A perfect midweek evening activity for the whole family.
Late-Summer Outdoor Adventures
The water is at its warmest, the trails are fully green, and the long evenings are perfect for outdoor exploration.
Lake Norman State Park
TroutmanMid-to-late August is prime time. The swimming beach is open, kayak and paddleboard rentals are available daily, and 30+ miles of the Itusi Trail are at their greenest. Arrive before 10 a.m. on weekends.
Jetton Park
CorneliusA 66-acre lakefront park with walking trails, a fishing pier, a swimming beach area, and covered picnic shelters. Sunset views from the pier are spectacular this time of year. Free admission.
Latta Nature Preserve
Huntersville1,460 acres of preserved natural beauty with 16-plus miles of hiking trails, the Carolina Raptor Center, an aquarium, and lake access. The nature center is air-conditioned, perfect for a midday stop.
Ramsey Creek Park
CorneliusA beautiful lakeside park with a sandy swimming beach (lifeguard on duty through Labor Day), a hiking trail, a kayak launch, and plenty of green space. A great alternative to the busier state park on weekends.
U.S. National Whitewater Center
CharlotteWhitewater rafting, kayaking, zip lines, mountain biking trails, and the free River Jam concert series on Thursday through Saturday evenings. The Labor Day weekend celebration is a highlight.
My top pick for a late August day: Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius. The sandy beach is lifeguarded through Labor Day, the kayak launch makes it easy to get on the water, and it is less crowded than the state park on weekends. If you have visiting family, this is where you take them.
Your Weekend-by-Weekend Game Plan
Here is how I would spend the remaining weekends of August to make the most of late summer.
August 15-16
- Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade in Uptown Charlotte -- one of the largest Pride celebrations in the Carolinas.
- Or: a quieter weekend on the lake with paddleboarding and swimming at Ramsey Creek Park.
- Dinner at Vitale Lakeside in Mooresville for sunset views over the water.
August 22-23
- The final Concerts on the Green of the season in Davidson on Saturday evening.
